The 24-year wait since the community approved a St. Charles School District 303 referendum may be even longer, as the $282.5 million request has 12,400 votes for and 16,062 votes against, with 100% of Kane and DuPage precincts reporting.Plans included classroom additions at three elementary schools, expanded spaces at both high schools, flexible spaces to support middle school students and increased accessibility throughout the district. If approved, the district would have contributed another $30 million, making the total renovation project run $312.5 million, according to Superintendent Paul Gordon. The community previously voted down school district referendums in 2009, 2006 and 2005. Student enrollment has largely remained steady over the past few school years, but district officials said aged and outdated facilities no longer meet the needs of the community.According to a tax impact calculator on the district’s website, the bond sale would result in an estimated $678 annual property
