SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — CJ Carr threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 4 Notre Dame avenged its most damaging loss from last season by running out to a 21-point lead and holding on to beat No. 1 Miami 31-24. Micah Gilbert caught two of those scoring passes and Jordan Faison had the other for Notre Dame, which came into the game knowing another loss to Miami could doom its national championship hopes. Darian Mensah threw three touchdown passes for Miami, twice getting the Hurricanes within a touchdown after they trailed 24-3 early in the third. Cooper Barkate had a pair of those scoring grabs. Elija Lofton had the other. SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — For 38 years, Miami has insisted the same thing: Cleveland Gary didn’t fumble in a still-debated loss at Notre Dame. And now, that play has some company. Add another did-he-or-didn’t-he to the lore of the rivalry between the Hurricanes and the Fighting Irish. Miami argued that Elija Lofton caught what would have been a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter of what became a 31-24 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday night — only to have the referees say Lofton didn’t complete the play. ATLANTA (AP) — Louisville extended its winning streak to four games and clinched bowl eligibility for a sixth conseutive season with a 44-17 victory over Georgia Tech. Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz threw touchdown passes to Tre Richardson and TreyShun Hurry in the first half, and Richardson also had a 52-yard rushing score. Running back Issac Brown added a touchdown in the third quarter. Georgia Tech alternated between quarterbacks Alberto Mendoza and Grady Adamson in the first half, but ultimately suffered its third consecutive loss and clinched its first below .500 season since 2022. RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Nate Sheppard ran for 217 yards and three scores while Andrew Pellicciotta scored on a 100-yard return of a missed field goal to help Duke beat N.C. State 41-3 on Saturday. Sheppard went up the middle for a 69-yard score on his first carry. Pellicciotta's “Kick Six” came to end the half and in his return from missing two games with a lower-body injury. N.C. State fell to 1-1 under interim coach Todd Goebbel, who took over after the firing of Dave Doeren. The Wolfpack managed just 217 total yards. BOSTON (AP) — Amari Thomas ran for two touchdowns, his second an 11-yarder that pushed Florida State ahead late in the fourth quarter, and the Seminoles beat Boston College 31-24 on Saturday in interim coach Rick Stockstill’s first game.Ashton Daniels completed 15-of-26 passes for 178 yards with an interception for Florida State (4-5, 2-4 Atlantic Coast Conference).Mason McKenzie hit 15 of 27 for 166 and two TDs and a pick for BC (4-5, 2-4 ACC).With it tied at 24-all, the Seminoles marched 90 yards in 14 plays, with Thomas breaking to the outside for the go-ahead score with 2:29 left. RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Duke's Andrew Pellicciotta had a remarkable 100-yard return of a missed field goal for a touchdown to end the first half in the Blue Devils' 41-3 win at NC State on Saturday. The safety had missed two games due to injury. The return was officially credited as 100 yards, though it was closer to 109 considering he caught the missed kick at the back of the end zone. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Obinna Ekezie Jr. came off the bench to score 20 points and grab 13 rebounds for No. 11 Louisville, which routed Morehead State 107-57. Ekezie, a 7-foot-2 freshman, was among seven Louisville players to score in double figures. Reserves Karter Knox and Isaac Ellis added 15 and 10, respectively, as the Cardinals got 56 points off the bench. Adrian Wooley finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. After wilting in the second half of their home opener, an 84-70 victory over Chattanooga on Monday, Louisville outscored Morehead State 40-2 over the first 12:33 of the second half. Clayton Parker led the Eagles with 19 points, hitting 4 of 7 3-pointers. SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Jahiem Lawson returned Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli’s fumble 22 yards for a score, Ashton Hampton intercepted Angeli in the end zone and Clemson held on to defeat the Orange 18-13 Saturday. Clemson (6-3, 4-2 ACC) won consecutive games for the first time in more than month with a smothering defense that held Angeli to 18-of-40 passing and 263 yards. Under duress for much of the game, the Tigers defense sacked the Orange quarterback three times.
