Ald. Matt Martin Running Unopposed In North Side’s 47th Ward

NORTH CENTER — For the second election cycle in a row, Ald. Matt Martin will be running unopposed to represent the 47th Ward. Martin succeeded Ameya Pawar in 2019 after the two-term alderman chose not to run again. Martin beat out nine other candidates in 2019, first advancing to a runoff election with former Rahm Emanuel policy chief Michael Negron before decisively winning the head-to-head race. Martin did not have any challengers in his first reelection bid in 2023. He will also not have any challengers during next year s election as he was the only candidate to file, according to petitions submitted to the Chicago Board of Elections by Monday’s deadline to make the ballot. Martin previously worked as a civil rights attorney for the Illinois Attorney General’s office and co-founded the Heart of Lincoln Square Neighbors Association. The 47th Ward includes parts of North Center, Lincoln Square, Ravenswood, Lakeview, Andersonville and Uptown. Ald. Matthew J. Martin (47th)
